Travel & Venue

Prince of Peace Abbey
The Abbey is a Benedictine Monastery on the hilltop in Oceanside, northern San Diego County, just south of the Marine Corp. base Camp Pendleton and a few miles north of Legoland in Carlsbad. The 30 mile drive from San Diego airport, Lindbergh Field, has good views of the ocean. The nearby towns of Carlsbad and Oceanside have great beaches popular with boogie boarders and surfers and the Oceanside pier and boardwalk is always popular. In late June the morning fog burns off by mid-morning and rain is not expected. The monastery has a path running along the bluff of the hill with Stations of the Cross.
Accommodations at the Abbey
We'll have an opportunity to quietly join the monks at many of their prayer Offices during the course of the day. We'll have our Holy Communion service in the Old Chapel. The monks will provide us with meals in the Refectory and while we are the only group scheduled it is not unusual to have others making retreats at the monastery.
The Retreat Center has several meeting rooms and the guest rooms have single beds in both the single and doubles. The number of rooms are limited so reserve your room early.
Air Travel
San Diego's Lindbergh Field is the closest major commercial airport, and is an easy 35 mile drive prior to the 3:00pm beginning of rush-hour traffic. Use the Google Map below for directions. Immediately below the monastery is a municipal airport for private craft.
Ground Transportation
With most people arriving as groups of parish delegates renting a car will be very cost effective and allow maximum flexibility for your delegation's arrival schedule. Alternately, SuperShuttle.com provides reasonably priced transportation. See registration materials for more information.
Weather
Temperatures are usually very moderate being located just a couple of miles from the ocean. The Average High Temperature is 74 F with a historical range of 68 F to 88 F. The Average Low Temperature is 60 F with a historical range of 53 F to 66 F. The ocean moisture makes it cool at night. Check Weather Underground for current weather conditions in the 92058 zip code.
